A Little More About Jennifer Wysocki, Founder and Host of The Girls Outdoors:
I was born and raised in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina… back when there was only a drawbridge and a Hardees Restaurant. The second of six children, our most important pieces of clothing were our church clothes and our bathing suit. We waited on the shrimp boats at the docks to bring back dinner and threw out our crab lines with chicken to supplement our shrimp. A true Southern upbringing that included collecting sand dollars with my Dad every weekend on my blue and yellow raft and putting Clorox on them so Mom could display one more art project.
My career in television brought me to Turner Broadcasting where I helped to launch and build multiple shows including Liars & Legends and Off the Menu- which was a hunting, fishing, and cooking program where we went out to “gather” the ingredients and bring them back to five star kitchens across the South to cook up our dinner. We won numerous awards for this programming including eight Emmy’s and garnered a prestigious James Beard Nomination for Best Cooking Show.
After 12 years at Turner, I went out on my own and opened the doors to Stanley Entertainment. One of my first projects was Presidential Advance Post Katrina. Commander’s Palace in New Orleans was one of my kitchens for Off the Menu… and many of my friends lost everything during the Hurricane. It was important to me to get there to help and so I worked Press Advance for the President when he was in the region and spent the rest of my time helping to clean up and rebuild.
Leaving New Orleans, I realized life could not be looked at the same. I needed to be responsible to my gifts and find a way to use all I know and love to make a positive impact during my time here. That is when THE GIRLS OUTDOORS was born.
Driving down I 20… I pulled out a hotel pad and this is what I wrote:
The Girls Outdoors will bring a whole new meaning to ‘Bringing Home The Bacon And Frying It Up In A Pan.’ This show hopes to bring a good-looking line of female camouflage to outdoor stores. So ladies… remove that cucumber peel for a turkey mask, trade in those spaghetti straps for a hog tie, and exit the sauna to prepare bait. It’s time to kill it and grill it!
I was excited! I had a plan! I was going back to my roots… back to my raisin’… and I was going to help bring the beauty and excitement of hunting and fishing and exploring nature to women everywhere. I was going to build a team that could make these activities more accessible and friendly. I want to share the smile I have every time I listen to nature wake up… first the owls… then the morning birds… then the turkeys falling from the trees. What a rush!
THE GIRLS OUTDOORS wants to be the home destination for all women who love to be outside! It is time for us to join together to make lifetime memories in the great outdoors with our family and friends. We will take you places and show you excursions that you can plan for yourself and your loved ones! We will give you the tools to learn new activities from excellent guides that will help you stay strong… complementing your active and busy lifestyle. We will provide healthy, great tasting, Wild Game recipes from Top Chefs, that you can enjoy preparing at home. We will give you exact GPS locations for all the best fishing across our magical waters and the best hunting in your neck of the woods. And we will invite you to join us as we embark on many excellent adventures.
My whole life has led up to this moment. I am prepared and ready to lead the way. We have an incredible team put together which still includes my Father. He will either be in the office… or gathering sand dollars on a raft with me for Mom’s next display.
